The music
Southern Syncopaters has since 1987 been performing Hot Jazz from the Roaring 20’s, which is a blend of very well-written arrangements of popular tunes and the spirit of jazz with improvised solos.
Rather than trying to replicate historical recordings, the approach has been to use exactly the same stock arrangements that were used by Coon-Sanders, Fletcher Henderson, King Oliver, and many more. Just like they did, we use those arrangements as a starting point and spice them with our own solos, song choruses, and some joyful visual effects.
Obtaining these original stock arrangements has taken a while and was not easy, but our collection of arrangements has now become very large thanks to various contacts and trips to jazz festivals in Sweden and the US.
The Band
During the band’s live concerts, you will be taken back to the carefree era of the 1920s, with all of the musicians dressed in sophisticated dinner jackets and the singing done in a gorgeous Myrtle microphone.

The musicians
Southern Syncopaters is a typical ten-piece big band. The musicians live in Scania, the southernmost area of Sweden, in the cities of Malmö and Lund.
After the demise of the band’s driving force, Torgny Salö, in 2023, the leadership was taken over by Paul Bocciolone Strandberg. With many years of experience in activities in this musical genre behind him, his participation contributes to the further musical development of the band, as well as adding a personal cornet soloist.
